RV Payload Calculator

See how quickly passengers, gear and hitch weight use the payload printed on your vehicle label.

Updated 2026-08-12

Remaining payload equals the specific vehicle's door-sticker payload minus passengers, cargo, accessories, hitch hardware and trailer tongue or fifth-wheel pin weight.

Everything that consumes payload

  • Driver and passengers
  • Cargo in the cab, bed or cargo area
  • Hitch receiver, ball mount or fifth-wheel hardware
  • Trailer tongue or pin weight
  • Aftermarket accessories added after the vehicle was built

Payload is often the first towing limit

A vehicle can be below its advertised tow rating and still exceed the payload printed on its Tire and Loading Information label. Half-ton trucks carrying a family, bed cargo and a travel-trailer tongue load are a common example.

This calculator checks payload only. Use the complete towing calculator to check GVWR, GCWR and tow rating at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find payload capacity?

Use the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver door or door jamb for the specific vehicle, not a generic brochure maximum.

Does trailer tongue weight use truck payload?

Yes. Add the measured or estimated tongue or fifth-wheel pin weight to passengers, cargo and hitch hardware.

Does adding airbags increase payload capacity?

No. Suspension aids can change ride height or handling but do not change the certified GVWR, axle, tire or payload ratings.
