Speed, Distance, Time Calculator
The classic d = v × t. Enter any two of speed, distance, and time. The third one is filled in for you. Switch units freely.
The triangle that doesn't change
Speed, distance, and time form a fixed relationship: distance is equal to speed multiplied by time. Rearrange it and you can solve for any one of the three when you know the other two. Drivers use it to estimate arrival time. Runners use it to predict finish times. Physics students use it for every velocity problem on the first page of a kinematics textbook.
The only trap is units. If your speed is in mph and your time is in hours, your distance comes out in miles. If your speed is in kph and your time is in minutes, you need to convert one of them first. The calculator above does the conversion automatically, so you can mix mph with kilometers or kph with miles without losing accuracy.
Worked examples
-
You drive 65 mph for 1 hour 30 minutes.
Distance = 65 × 1.5 = 97.5 mi.
-
A 10K race finished in 47:30.
Speed = 10 km ÷ (47.5 ÷ 60) h = 12.63 kph (about 7:50/mi).
-
You need to cover 250 km at an average of 90 kph.
Time = 250 ÷ 90 = 2.78 h = 2 hours 47 minutes.
-
Cycling a 40 km loop in 1:20:00.
Speed = 40 ÷ (80 ÷ 60) = 30 kph (about 18.6 mph).
